This Year's Model Updates:

The 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe receives minor changes. The Limited trim pads its standard equipment roster with the high-power Infinity Logic 7 CD changer audio system and a sunroof, while SE models now include standard premium seat cloth.

Pros:
  • Well-designed cabin, impressive standard safety features and crash test scores, competitive price, lengthy warranty, optional third-row seat.
Cons:
  • Excessively firm ride on SE and Limited models, lackluster automatic transmission, disappointing driving dynamics.

  • Dont buy this car - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

My husband and I bought the 2008 Hyundai in September. We put 10,000 down on it. Well, It has had nothing but problems. The transmission slips, there is a rattling noise coming from the engine, the wheel alignment does not stay in place, gas mileage sucked, and when the kids hooked up there dvd systems or game systems in the back it would cause a frying sound thru the speakers. We traded it in today and lost almost 18,000 on it. We lost all of our investment and only had it 6 months. We bought this 2008 as a demo with low miles. I will never look at or consider buying another one.

  • Luv the 2008 Santa Fe - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Car is so quiet and smooth. Luv the bigger V-6, almost unnoticeable when it shifts. SE has very nice interior. Very comfortable. Great mileage...21 local...24 highway. Better mileage than 2003 which had small V-6. Had 2003 Santa Fe 5 years..enjoyed it so much there was no question when we went to look for a new car. No mechanical probs on the 2003 & after Id wash it it looked like new car even after 5 years. When u consider the price & warranty, my 2008 Santa Fee is a "no-brainer"!

  • Great value and very comfortable ride - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Great car for the price, about same size as the Lexus RX, but $20k less, and certainly not as luxurious. Plenty of room for a 6 driver. Nice amenities and leather interior. Comfortable ride with plenty of passing power. Averaged about 23 mpg driving from San Fran to LA and back, mostly at 75 to 85 mph. Was a little surprised to notice in the door panel that the car was manufactured in Aug, 07.

  • Traded it! - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

After 4000 miles on a Honda CRV. The Santa Fe was the absolute worse vehicle I have ever owned and Hyundai is the worse car company I ever dealt with. Transmission was defective and they would not recognize its problems or fix it. Bad design and quality problems. They may allege to have the best warranty in the business but that is because they wont fix any problems and keep saying that is the way the vehicle was made to operate. Never buy a Hyundai again ......ever!

This is my third Hyundai Santa Fe and each version gets better than the last. Overall fit and finish was excellent. Smooth Ride and OK gas mileage so far.

  • Great car so far - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Only have 1500 miles on it and owned for two months, but still quiet, smooth engine and no transmission issues or shift delays as others have mentioned. I have not driven it hard yet to break in engine as I am waiting about 3000 miles to put it to a real test. Rated 5 on reliability only b/c I dont know yet. Great car so far with little if any complaints about the vehicle itself. The cloth does seem to stain easier than some of my previous cars. A few cheaper plastic parts, but all cars have flaws. Gas mileage for me has been 18-20 on mostly highways, but seems to be getting better as I drive. And does much better if you keep it around 55 or 60 on freeways. Warranty was a major factor.

  • More than I expected - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Having owned for about a week this car/truck is one great vehicle. All the research and test driving other vehicles this is the best hands down. There is so much quality in the detailing that I thought I was buying a Lexus. The infinity radio is just great along the the a/c that is so much better than my 2006 murano. These other car mfg better be looking over there shoulders.

  • Nice vehicle - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Typically drive in metro environment and have averaged 22 mpg so far. I like the look of the vehicle and the bang for the buck! The interior is well thought out and the kids love the reclining rear seats. I like the hidden storage and that the drivers seat can be raised or lowered. Recently found the stability control works well (driving on icy roads) and that is something I couldnt do easily before (in a truck). Very happy with this Santa Fe and look forward to continued satisfaction.

  • Concerns about warranty - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

We have put 24K on this car. Bought for wife, she hates it, and chooses to drive our 04 accord 100K+miles. The interior scratches easily and there are alot of rattles. The suspension is noisy and a little soft. Other than that it is powerful, comfortable, attractive, and at a great price. The interior is really the place of my frustration in terms of rattles (fixed one, but there are many), feedback noise issue (told me its normal) and seat pocket tears (havent heard back from dealer yet, its been weeks) I am concerned that, regardless of the problem, the dealer will passively resist my concerns. And so, with less than 2 years and 24K I am considering trading.

  • Best Car I Ever Had in 28 Years Driving - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Ive been driving for 28 years and this is the best car I ever owned. It seats 4 comfortably and I can haul a lot of stuff when I put the seats down. Fuel mileage is excellent for a car with this much storage. After reading about terrible problems in the automatic gear shift from 1st to 2nd, I made sure to check this out repeatedly during the test drive. 10 months later, I have zero problems with that or anything else. I got all the upgrades except for the navigation system and the roof rack. Im thinking of getting one for my wife and get the $3,500 govt "CARS" plan since the MPG difference qualifies. Unless you get a rare lemon, this is really a great crossover.
